Some people love this aspect of running a business, others don't, but the fact remains that until and unless other people a) know what you do and b) believe you can do it well, they're not going to send any business (money!) your way. So it's absolutely essential to master at least the basic aspects of marketing a business.
How you choose to market depends on several factors. To begin with, there are only three "currencies" you can choose from to spend - time, energy, and money - and spending more of one usually means spending less of another.
For example, if you do door-to-door canvassing to pass out flyers for your new pet food delivery business, that's going to cost less than hiring someone to do it for you, but it's going to require more time and effort.
Conversely, if you have the money to hire someone to do the canvassing for you, it'll get done faster and with less physical effort on your part.
